Nutrition & Food Access

Food should nourish not create another barrier to health.

Royally Fit works to improve access to nourishing food, practical nutrition education and the knowledge and resources people need to support their health.

Through community-based food access, nutrition education, culinary skill-building and hands-on agricultural learning, we connect what people eat with how food is grown, prepared, shared and sustained.

Our work recognizes that healthy food access involves more than the availability of fresh produce. Families also need the knowledge, resources, time, equipment and support to make nourishing food part of everyday life.

Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Royally Fit partners with community organizations, growers, healthcare and public health stakeholders and local institutions to develop accessible, community-centered approaches to nutrition and food security.

Our approach is simple. Improve access. Build knowledge. Develop skills. Strengthen community health.

Our Nutrition & Food Access Model

We connect food access with education and practical skill-building so that participants can move beyond receiving food to building the knowledge and confidence to use it.

Our model brings together four complementary program areas:

Nutritionally Tailored CSA

Connecting food access with health needs.

Eligible participants receive produce through a nutritionally tailored Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, alongside nutrition education and opportunities to build practical food skills.

Seed to Table

Growing the knowledge to nourish ourselves.

This hands-on, 12-week educational series connects growing food with understanding its nutritional value and learning how to prepare it. Participants explore the journey from seed to harvest to meal.

Nourish to Thrive

Supporting nourishment during the postpartum period.

This six-week virtual postpartum nutrition education course helps participants build practical skills in meal planning, food preparation, budget-conscious nourishment and postpartum self-care.

Who We Serve

Our nutrition and food access initiatives prioritize communities facing barriers to nutritious food, preventive health resources and practical nutrition education.

Depending on the program and its eligibility requirements, our work may serve:

  • Pregnant and postpartum women and families

  • Older adults

  • Individuals and families experiencing food insecurity

  • Community members managing or at risk for diet-related health concerns

  • Parents and caregivers seeking practical nutrition and food preparation skills

  • Community organizations seeking accessible, culturally responsive nutrition education

Program eligibility, referral pathways and availability vary by initiative.

What Makes Our Approach Different

Food access connected to education

We pair access to nourishing food with opportunities to learn how to select, grow, prepare and incorporate it into everyday meals.

Practical, real-world learning

Our educational activities connect nutrition concepts to cooking, gardening, meal planning and household food budgets.

Community-centered partnerships

We work across food systems, public health, community wellness and education to connect people with resources and strengthen local capacity.

A connection between food production and community health

Royally Fit Farm supports our nutrition programming and botanical product development, connecting growing and harvesting with food access, education and community-based wellness.
